For over two decades, ECDIC has worked with some of Sri Lanka's most marginalized communities to transform lives through rights-based development, grassroots leadership, and institutional partnerships. Our impact extends beyond individual projects—we strengthen communities, build local institutions, influence public policy, and create sustainable systems that continue long after projects conclude.
ECDIC has empowered hundreds of community leaders and strengthened dozens of community-based organizations across plantation and rural communities. Through leadership development, rights awareness, organizational capacity building, and participatory governance, communities have become better equipped to advocate for their rights and engage constructively with public institutions.
Our programs have helped vulnerable individuals gain access to legal identity documents, legal assistance, psychosocial support, public services, and protection mechanisms. We have documented human rights violations, supported victims of discrimination and exploitation, and promoted accountability through constructive engagement with state institutions.
Women's leadership remains central to our mission. ECDIC has supported the formation and strengthening of women's organizations, (especially Malaiyaha Tamil plantation communities) promoted gender equality, prevented sexual and gender-based violence, and enhanced women's participation in local governance and community decision-making. Our work enables women to become leaders, advocates, entrepreneurs, and agents of social transformation.
We believe young people are catalysts for sustainable development. Our initiatives have improved educational opportunities, strengthened child protection mechanisms, promoted youth leadership, and enhanced digital skills that prepare young people to participate confidently in democratic society.
Sustainable development requires capable institutions. ECDIC strengthens civil society organizations, community networks, and public institutions through technical assistance, training, evidence generation, monitoring systems, and policy dialogue. This institutional approach ensures that development gains continue beyond individual projects.
As emerging social, environmental, and humanitarian challenges evolve, ECDIC remains committed to developing innovative, evidence-based solutions that place communities at the center of sustainable development while strengthening partnerships with national and international stakeholders.
